Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and magnetic skyrmions induced by curvature

Realizing sizeable Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in intrinsic two-dimensional (2D) magnets without any manipulation will greatly enrich potential application of spintronics devices. The simplest and most desirable situation should be 2D with DMI chiral spin textures. Here, we propose to realize by designing periodic ripple structures different curvatures low-dimensional demonstrate the concept both one-dimensional (1D) CrBr2 MnSe2 using first-principles calculations. We find that DMIs curved can efficiently controlled varying size curvature c, where c is defined as ratio between height h length l structure. Moreover, unveil dependence calculated on well described three-site Fert-L\'evy model. At last, uncover field-free magnetic skyrmions realized atomistic model simulations based parameters. work open a new avenue for inducing textures simple via curvature.
